Why we built Discern

You notice things.
You just don't say them out loud.

You're already picking up on the signals — the eager DM, the vague posting, the recruiter you can't quite verify. But there's nowhere safe to ask. Telling your network makes it weird. Asking the recruiter doesn't help. Most of the time, the instinct check happens silently, alone, or not at all. That's the gap we built Discern to fill: a private space to think out loud about an opportunity, no judgment and no advice you didn't ask for.

Built differently, on purpose. Most tools answer "Is this a scam?" Discern asks "What should you make of this?" — then helps you think it through.

Modes

Use it however you want.

Start with one thing. Come back as you learn more. Eventually, check from anywhere you happen to be looking. Discern meets you wherever you are in the process.

What you get back

A read, not a verdict.

Discern doesn't tell you what to do. It acknowledges what looks normal, names what's worth a closer look, and gives you specific steps to verify the parts that feel uncertain. Then it gets out of your way.

Example output — tone

"It's common for recruiters to reach out on LinkedIn without sending the full job description up front — that part isn't unusual. What's worth a closer look is the request to move to WhatsApp before any interview has happened. Legitimate recruiters at established companies generally don't need to leave the platform this early. One easy check: ask if they're open to a quick video call on LinkedIn instead. How they respond will tell you something."

Privacy

Your data is
never ours to keep.

01

Nothing is stored

Your submission is sent to Claude for analysis, a response comes back, and nothing is written to any database — ours or anyone else's.

02

PII removed before sending

Emails, phone numbers, and ID numbers are automatically redacted in your browser before anything leaves your device. You'll see what gets sent before you confirm.

03

Anthropic doesn't train on API data

The Claude API is explicitly excluded from Anthropic's training pipeline. We say this plainly rather than hiding it in fine print.
